The today program on radio 4 is doing a feature this week on London developments. They were in Shepherds bush this morning talking to a couple earning 100k plus who were priced out of the new "affordable homes" that were being built. They need 100k deposit for which the have been saving several years. An estate agent said that there was a lot of Asian investors buying up property. One buyer bought 30 flats in West London off plan which are now lying empty. No one disagrees with building truly affordable homes and social housing but it galls me that developers and investors with no interest or concern for the communities are being granted planning applications that benefit them but damage communities. In response to the poster who didn't think a family would move into a 2 bedroom flat so wouldn't have an impact on schools: My husband and I and our son lived in a 1 bed flat until my son was 5. I know many families in this situation. A two bed flat is a family home. |
