Many apologies, had a couple of thoughts and re-read your post and realised you said its still being investigated. Re: Tablet medication, I know you said your cat doesn't like wet treats but AD wet food is really really tempting to cats - its high calories, has a consistency like smooth pate and aimed at making them want to eat it. I have either crushed tablets between two teaspoons or pulled apart capsules (if the vet says its okay), mixed it with a teaspoon of AD and cats will lick it off the spoon.
If you have to master the tablet down the throat move, one tip if you are allowed to practice on cats on meds at the vet, is work out which combination of fingers work best for you to open the mouth and simultaneously put the table on the back of the tongue. Some combination of thumb, index, middle and ring finger of your dominant hand whilst the other hand is at the back of the head - ask the nurses to show you (they usually do more of this than the vets!) but feel free to work out your own "open and place" combination.
And if your cat does need regular check ups some vets will do house calls which would avoid the need to box her up. |
