Andy - I live in Isleworth, and my experience as a councillor for 16 years from 1986 is that if I heard CPZ and Chiswick mentioned together in one sentence - I'd run for the hills. I cannot tell you how long this particular issue went on for, even back then, it was a complete nightmare and we must have consulted people to the extent they lost the will to live! There was never any agreement and frankly nothing seems to have changed in all that time. It is probably the best way forward but if people don't want it, then fine don't have it. We negotiated for one here due to the proximity of the RFU stadium which they pay for, and it has really improved things on match days to an amazing degree, but I do think the costs that others are expected to pay are outrageous. I don't think that this is worth the grief and lessons most certainly should have been learned from previous times, councillors really do have to learn to make their own judgements and not be led by the nose by officers, their function is to advise not to force policy decisions, something that can get overlooked. |
