"...that is now unlikely to happen." Yes, but it's exactly what was supposed to happen. The original promise from LBH was that the 2-road CPZ would be subject to a 6-month consultation, to determine whether it would be made permanent or not (depending on how affected residents supported it or objected to it after 6 months). So the implication there was that IF affected residents gave it the thumbs down after 6 months, it would be taken out (otherwise why call it "temporary" and why bother with the consultation?) The problem is that LBH Traffic then decided NOT to consult with the affected residents, i.e. those residents in surrounding roads who now had 250-350 displaced cars to cope with. They decided that the only people they would ask would be those residents in the two CPZ roads, i.e. those residents who now lived in a virtual private road. It's called a "rigged vote". And by doing this, LBH have virtually guaranteed that they will get a "YES" answer to the consultation. They know as well as we do that if they widen the consultation too much, they run the risk of getting another overwhelming vote against CPZ. And they don't want that. This is why they are now only consulting the roads that are worst affected by the current displacement, for the next phase of CPZ extension. they are not consulting with the next band of roads after that because they know by asking one road at a time they are much more likely to get the "YES" answers they want. But according to LBH all this is totally transparent, honest, above board, and beyond reproach. |
