I was put on Simvastatin when doctors started prescribing it for everyone that had a pulse.I got horrific leg pains and oedema (water retention) from the thigh down.My legs became so swollen with fluid, I put on nearly 2 stone in a few weeks, and the skin on my legs was stretched to breaking point. At this time doctors were unaware these statins had severe side effects, and I was told the fluid retention was due to heart failure.I had to sleep sitting upright as I couldn't lay down because I couldn't breath, I was literally drowning if I laid flat.I couldn't bend my knees, and so couldn't walk.It was a pretty awful time, but the doctors insisted it was not the statins. One morning I forgot to take it, and by the end of the day, my legs did not seem to hurt as much. The next morning, the swelling had gone down slightly, so I didn't take it again that morning. That evening there was a marked reduction in the swelling so I threw the rest of the tablets in the bin.Within a week everything was back to normal and I have never gone near another statin since, but the doctors still insisted it wasn't the statins. |
