Simvastatin is the cheapest statin with the worst side effects. Atorvastatin is marginally better but all statins should be avoided like the plague. Cholesterol can be lowered by nutrition, especially green vegetables such as spinach and kale, celery and apples. Also raw nuts. Contrary to the general opinion there is no proven evidence that saturated fats cause rises in chloresterol. It is best to eat a high fat diet, including raw milk and raw butter. Include Extra Virgin Olive Oil and garlic. Avoid processed foods and eat raw food as much as you can and do not go near low fat spreads. Cut down on Carbohydrates ie bread pasta rice potatoes-less wheat and gluten = lose weight red wine instead of beer.. lots of exercise but you will not be able to exercise while on statins as you will barely be able to walk.. The average chloresterol in the UK is 6 so 7 is not critical and GPs are being encouraged to get the whole population on statins.. this is coming from the USA and is not healthy.. I have had occasional high readings ie 5.5 (below average) and briefly took statins until I researched them.. it can be confusing but read The Great Chloresterol Con by Dr Malcolm Kendrick for more info (couple of quid on Amazon) |
