Thanks for all the suggestions, which I have now passed on. Unfortunately, the situation has got worse for the poor girl. Her school, a small private girls school, have just phoned her (not her mother, which seems extra cruel) and said she cannot stay on in the sixth form, even if she repeats the year ( she is a late July birth so wouldn't really matter). So her parents are now scrabbling around trying to find a sixth form that will take her to resist maths gcse and repeat the first year of A levels. She is localish - richmond/twickenham - so any thoughts of accommodating sixth forms or any teachers with experience of this sort of problem would be very welcome. She is in bits and doesn't know where she can go next week, so please try!
