Anything to do with mainland China seems to create issues per my own experience on items either being fakes or rejected products from main manufacturer's production plants in mainland China which are being sold as perfect.

The attempts mentioned to set up UK front sellers for items actually shipped from China seems to be latest version of this approach. If this was not disclosed on eBay listing (under shipping details) they have historically enforced refunds under the Paypal guarantee eBay operates.
