| When I turned on the radio this morning I was pleasantly surprised to hear and extended interview of Harry Gregg by Cliff Morgan. It was one of the most amazing testimonies of personal bravery I'd ever heard. It was followed by Stuart Hall talking to Brian Clough about not getting the England job in 1977. I'm not great in the morning so it didn't strike me as unusual and it is only now that I have worked out that it was a filler because BBC staff had gone on strike. The cause of the strike is that the BBC have discovered a £2 billion hole in their pension fund and want to take steps to improve the deficit. I won't comment on the merits or otherwise of the dispute other than to say I'm quite happy to listen to archive broadcasts for the time being as long as there is still news, sport and travel in the morning and that deficit won't go away on its own. |
