| The presentation and the camera work on the Ireland vs South Africa today was excellent and I thought better than the BBC (which is not shabby). This could be partly because of better media facilities at the new Aviva stadium. I presume the commentary was provided by RTE. As for the pension deficit, the high wage culture at the BBC particularly for senior management has inevitably led to higher future liabilities for the fund and increased the deficit. I do sympathise with longer serving, less well paid staff who are going to lose out but only there are only three ways to sort out the deficit; cut programme budgets and increase the license fee, a further subsidy for the tax payer or a cut in staff benefits. It is inevitably going to be the last option. |
