Yes we too would often walk stuff into Stirling Road when there were huge queues - I think it was stopped there presumably for safety reasons - and I also hated reversing into the spaces under pressure - partly for the same reason!  It was our local HWRC.  Kerbside collections have hugely increased since then - and packaging has greatly reduced.

I still remember years ago someone in a sports car arriving with a large undismantled cardboard box with the polystyrene still inside esconced on the back seat looking completely out of place and as if delivering some sort of huge religious offering.  It does help to separate and flatten materials before disposal and we often STILL don't see this happening!

Packaging has changed a lot and companies creating and using it by law now have to be much more responsible for it.

We've certainly had Packaging Producer Regulations for around 30 years - and this will have and will be pushing a change to reduce packaging and improve recyclability.  You will find very few mixed materials now used in one piece of packaging and the innovation in achieving this is really creative and should be applauded much much more.
