'I believe the Supreme Court decision was probably right, but it's tough for transgender women who really see themselves as women, not to be accepted as such. One area of difficulty can obviously be reduced through a greater provision of unisex loos. But in sport there's no accommodation possible: the fact is that competition between women canot be fair if transgender women who have gone through male puberty are allowed to compete.' I broadly agree with that - and I'm not sure that the court's decision did give 'clarity', I would think that transgender women would be infinitely safer using Women's loos, after all they all have cubicles so who the hell would know? A Male loo would clearly be a big no-no. Perhaps the Equality Act needs an overhaul in the light of different opinions and experiences since it was passed? |
