If I ran a pub, I would determine what time I needed to close the doors, and set last orders to 30 mins prior to that time. I would formally provide 20 mins drinking up time and politely advise people of this during this period, but I would only put any real pressure on people to leave between 20 and 30 mins if they’d not done so already. I’ve not been to ‘The Duke of Kent’ pub in Ealing for a while, which is also a Fullers pub, but this is pretty much how they went about things at closing time when I was visiting, and it worked well for all – practical, fair and effective.
