| Just as in Hounslow in Ealing carrier bags and film are not supposed to be collected in the kerbside recycling. Yet you see black bags hanging out of the recycling bins together with carrier bags. Heaven knows what is in them. I don't think the collectors bother to look - they just collect. I'm not in the least surprised that the recycling is contaminated. In Ealing the recycling goes to an MRF to be sorted but it should be clean recycling to begin with - something that is difficult to ensure with wheelie bins especially with what happens as above. (Plastic bags and film can cause the sorting machinery to break down but food waste is apparently the biggest contaminent. Please use your food waste bin!) Where is the Central Government leadership on packaging? The plastic bottles sheathed in plastic film that are apparently difficult to recycle for instance and the "iconic" packaging that is unrecyclable? |
