| You could end up like Ealing and that is dire. Two wheelies - much larger than necessary - dangerously pushed up against the windows of so many homes. There are smaller wheelies but when people asked for them they were told they didn't exist - even though these things are so visible in front of small homes that you could not possibly miss noticing that they do. There is also a problem with assisted collections in particular wheelies being left out on the pavement or on paths blocking front doors. One of the problems is that they are so difficult to manoeuvre past each other when there is little space. The wrong one is always nearest the street - so both have to be taken out on the street to have the right one available. One solution I have seen in one terrace is when a front wall has been rebuilt with two access points. We're talking small homes here - not the bigger ones where they can be hidden and where they are less danger. They certainly don't encourage a reduction in waste or people to reduce the volume of the waste. They are also dangerous when they are sitting at the top of steps down to basements. One size and one method does not fit all. The technology has some way to go. Making less waste by not buying too much and buying with as little necessary packaging as possible makes it much easier. One of my neighbours uses one of those wheeled trolleys to take the green box out. Don't the supermarkets still have recycling bins? If you go by car to buy why not take back to recycle? |
