Colin, is the cross-hatched building Jim is talking about the one you're interested in? If so, the 1867 OS map shows this location to be a different, neighbouring field to the one Tower House was built in. (In the 1867 OS map this field is numbered 130). What seems interesting to me about this building with Jim's red arrow is that it's perfectly square. Most houses, as you can see, are not perfectly square. My guess is that whatever this square cross-hatched building is, it's not an original part of the Cranbrook Road terraces but earlier. Next stop, Colin, is Chiswick Library's Local Studies section.
