Curved approaches aren't the answer for Heathrow, I'm afraid. Those still have to follow a precise, pre-defined flightpath, so they don't spread the noise, they just move it over someone else's backyard. That works well for an airport like Stockholm, which is out in the sticks with just one medium-sized town (Upplands Väsby) to avoid on the approach, but Heathrow sits right on the edge of Greater London and there's no possible approach flightpath from the east, straight or curved, that can avoid overflying densely populated areas. |
