Good grief. I have zero interest in sport so haven't been keeping an eye on this. So we have an event which is costing us approximately £10bn, which is effectively a giant global marketing platform for MacDonalds, Heineken, et al.

So why are we paying for it? Why aren't they paying for it?

I thought we didn't have any money? We certainly don't seem to have any for schools, hospitals, public transport, fixing roads, and other useful stuff. How come we have £10bn to spare for a MacDonalds advert?

I despair. I really do.

This week I read that the CAB across the country is receiving 10,000 new calls EVERY DAY from people who have hit the wall with their personal finances - mortgages, credit cards, overdrafts, car payments, council tax, etc.   Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of how they got into their mess, there are 10,000 of them calling the CAB evey day at their wits end. And they are being told they have to wait 6-8 weeks before someone can speak to them.

And this week, it was announced that local councils are cutting CAB funding by 45% because they don't have any money.

Have we all gone totally mad?
