Duncan, I can only assume he means the Devonshire Estate - which isn't dreadful either, but which might be the kind of thing Yvonne is looking for since it's public housing built in an era when these things were done very differently. Similarly the Alexandra Gardens / Edensor Gardens estate has a fantastic location down by the river that it doesn't exploit very well, and might make a good case study. Alexandra Gardens in particular is an example of the postwar practice of putting public housing out of sight 'over there' in an area that was largely industrial when the estate was built. |
