| It wouldn't do you any good to learn more about the Poles Robin they still wouldn't like you. There may be millions of them in th UK but generally speaking they do not care much for the British. For historical reasons mainly, they blame Churchill for selling them out after the war. As my brother in law would tell you, it made no difference to the Poles whether Poland was under German occupation or Russian occupation. They wanted no occupation of their country. My brother in law came to the UK in 1947 having been taken from his mother aged 8 and effectively rescued by General Anders. Story too long to go into but he was conscripted into some sort of boy scout outfit and marched through Siberia, North Africa, etc. etc., all before reaching the UK where he was re-united with his mother who had lost her other son through starvation and typhoid. My brother in law was stateless because his part of Poland was then under Russia. He was offered British citizenship which he refused "I was born Polish I will die Polish" was his mantra. His father was executed by the Ukranians because he had been a solder in WWI. I was not born until well after the war but from listening to my brother in law and my own parents, I would agree with the poster who pointed out that the defeat of the Germans in WW2 owed more to the Russians than the Americans. |
