Britain has many things it can pride in,, but that one really is sweeping, as is the reference to the World Wars. the second WW was a close shave and it could easily have gone the other way were it not for Hitler turning east when he did and the Americans coming in to save us. also, this is never talked about, but the European Powers (including Britain) which had empires abroad dragged a whole lot of peoples in distant lands into an international war that was not of their making, and they were far away from the politics of Europe. not sure we should be proud about that particular angle. |
