" Quite, so what are you going to do about it?  It's a competitive market out there, and if people prefer the image of Guinness and conviviality to lager'n'violence there's not much short of imposing a state obligation to celebrate, which is rather out of keeping with that whole 'Britishness' thing.  One thing I do know, which is that peevish whinging about lack of patriotism is going to turn people *off*. The lack of bank holidays is a general British trait caused by over-powerful bosses, not lack of patriotism.  They want us to keep working, not have a day off.  If you want to change it, support a more democratic system where we have more power.
