I felt I had to comment about this story and the new post at Chiswick Community School since I have literally just finished running an event there (the Grove Park Football Tournament today, Sunday May 16th). The school has a wonderful site, is set in an envied position (opposite Chiswick House & Grounds), has an imposing Victorian structure, large playing fields and grounds...and yet, right now I have no desire to let me 7 year old come here when he is 11. Why? Because there seems to be no care or warmth or good will. The grounds are strewn with litter, the bins are overflowing, the outdoor classroom is a mess, there is grafitti over school signs, the toilets blocked, no soap...I could go on. But I feel no love and no care or respect is there for this place (from the pupils right through to the staff). I might be judging a book by its cover, but what else do I have to go on? The things I have mentioned could be so easy to remedy, but yet, this is the third tournament I have helped to run, and it's the same every time. This story focuses on the fact that it's a local guy coming back to Chiswick. I don't really care where he is from, it's what he plans to do that counts. Maybe he should hook up with Toby Young! The long and short of it is that I really want this new head to convince me that this is the best place to send my son when he leaves Grove Park Primary. I know it has the potential to be a great school, but right now, I'm decided otherwise. Any thoughts or feedback on today's football tournament would be much appreciated too. Thanks, Clare. |
