"22.52 [23 Jan] a large plane flew over the Murco at the junction of Acton Lane and South Parade. No way was this at 2000ft, no way was this on the final approach we understand to be "safely joined" miles east of here." That was an Airbus A321 of bmi (flight BD134 from Dublin, due into Heathrow at 23:00) which WebTrak shows taking a "short cut" from the normal flight path, passing over Acton Green at 22:52:10. Despite your perception, its altitude there is given as 2008 feet. There was little other landing traffic around at that time of the evening, so the air traffic controllers evidently decided that there was no point in forcing the plane to fly several unnecessary miles via Docklands. There is no safety risk in joining the final approach late when traffic is light, and it does happen from time to time. It is, however, a taste of what the 3rd runway would mean to people near Chiswick High Road. |
