Exactly that.

I stopped subscribing when they changed the service last year. I write to the then cabinet member in charge of it, Deirdre Costigan, who came out with a load of civil abc bull about benchmarking against other London boroughs (basically one in east London) and some rural counties.

Apparently there’s ‘less call for collections in winter as plants are dormant’. She isn’t a gardener (as it’s a crucial pruning time for many shrubs) and conveniently forgets the huge amount of leaf litter accruing then. Her recommendation to drive to the tip goes against their policy of discouraging car use.

Staggering that Deirdre is now an MP. Little wonder the government is so useless!

The service was making a loss, and continues to do so. The collecting teams still gave to be employed and paid for alternative work.
