The original Stamford Brook used to meander from the Wormwood Scrubs area down to the Thames.  In the late 1800s it marked the Hammersmith-Acton border.  At some point it was culverted and now only emerges in the grounds of Chiswick House and into the Thames at Furnivall Gardens.  There’s lots more info available online.
