No one really knows. It will become evident over time. 

I have heard doubts expressed by medics along the lines that if it mirrors what happens with antibiotics, the reason you are always advised to take the full set of pills even when you feel better is that not taking them while the microbes are still present allows them to mutate and develop resistance.  As I am sure most people know, resistance to antibiotics is becoming a severe problem and many medics worry that before too long, routine operations will become too dangerous unless new antibiotics are developed pretty quickly.
