It's not serious nonsense to suggest that HTB is a cult with negative aspects. The mistake lies in suggesting that St Albans is purely being appropriated to the ends of HTB acolytes. It's not as if St Albans had any future as a place of worship before CCW4 took it over. This is a very different situation from the usual cuckoo in the Anglican nest, where unwilling congregations have changes forced on them by outsiders (HTB plants) who take over the PCC. Whatever one may think of the HTB tendency (I call it that because it seems to me that inside the CoE it's a bit like Militant Tendency was in the Labour Party), the fact is that in this case it helped save a community resource. |
