Demographics are probably going to ensure Trump does not progress far (with Hispanic and Blacks just comprising and calculated to be more than 50% of US electorate shortly (plus add to that other minorities of Muslims etc.). The big Hispanic hope on the Republicans nominations (Ted Cruz) seems to be doing a pretty good self destruct job currently. Trump's main support from what I have read seems to come from the Tea Party and religious fundamentalist elements of mostly Southern Baptist churches (helped by Fox News reporting) and what has historically been called "white trash" to depict poorly educated whites. If true as Obama's re-election showed these elements are vocal but not decisive in the final count. For those with long memories we have been here before with Barry Goldwater versus Lyndon Johnston in 1964, when his talk of nuking the Soviets saw the Republicans suffer one of their biggest defeats. |
