As far as the article on the front page goes, something has been lost in translation. The press release which I issued read:

"Great West Corridor

We understand that the Council is about to launch the initial public consultation on the Great West Corridor plan review
http://www.hounslow.gov.uk/index/environment_and_planning/planning/planningpolicy/local_plan/greatwest_corridor_plan_review.htm

The Local Plan, which was adopted in September, http://www.hounslow.gov.uk/index/environment_and_planning/planning/planningpolicy.htm
identifies the need for a “partial review” to define and provide planning policies for the Great West Corridor.

WCGS, on behalf of the G15+ consortium of resident groups, has been in constructive dialogue with the Council’s planning policy team. We have made proposals concerning resident consultation, emphasising the need for wide consultation and publicity. We have recommended that public meetings be held in both Brentford and Chiswick to explain the purpose and process of the partial review and how residents can get involved.

That residents do get involved is very important. During the Public Examination of the draft Local Plan earlier this year, WCGS and other resident groups raised concerns as to the soundness of aspects of the plan and the Inspector required changes to be made. His Report http://www.hounslow.gov.uk/index/environment_and_planning/planning/planningpolicy/local_plan.htm
contains a section on the Great West Corridor (paragraphs 47 – 56) which concludes (paragraph 54) that “this Partial Review is necessary to settle locally controversial issues such as the provision of adequate transport and other infrastructure, suitable locations for taller buildings, and the area's suitability or otherwise for large scale residential development.”

Schemes are already coming forward for this part of the borough. Developers are here today and gone tomorrow unlike the established resident communities who have to live with the consequences. We don’t want a Wild West corridor — a lawless area where, in the absence of policy, cowboy developers take the planning reigns into their own hands, riding roughshod over the above issues and others such as air quality —and building like the sky’s the limit."

The purpose of issuing the Press Release was to alert people to the forthcoming Council consultation and its importance so as to start a constructive dialogue; we wish to encourage citizen engagement.

WCGS is happy to support development that we consider appropriate. A current example is that proposed for 250 Gunnersbury Avenue. As we stated in our comments to the planning department.
"We consider that the proposed scale is appropriate for this particular site within the Power Road industrial estate. We believe that the design relates well to its context and surroundings." We are pleased to see that our request for changes to the south elevation has been met.
