Much of the foreign aid budget is disguised support for British exports rather than straightforward aid. If you take that out much of the rest is directed towards supporting failing states from which refugees are currently coming i.e. it would be brainless to cut it if you object to refugees.
As Francis says the amount we currently pay to support migrants is small compared to overall budgets and we'll get all the money spent back many times over. It is simply untrue to imply that overseas aid and support to refugees represents a greater proportion of spending than support to people who need it in the UK. |
