No... in fact until recently they were compulsory in Germany (Germans didn't trust batteries...) so all of the top end manufacturers of dynamos and lights are German companies. With other power hungry gadgets these days, you can even get a bike fitted with a dynamo-powered USB connector for a GPS or smart phone. The technology has moved on hugely in terms of the efficiency of dynamos and lights so lights will have capacitor capable of powering the light for some time after the person has stopped pedalling. Not cheap however... £300 to £400 for a quality German hub and front and rear lights... |
