If you are giving up your home country, even with the dangers of violence and mayhem, it is a bit of a wrench (to say the least) so the benefits (with a small b) of your new country must compensate for what you have lost. Being cooped up in tents in Cyprus is possibly no better and may be worse than what they left behind. Why particularly they want to go to England? I would imagine because they know there is a community of their countrymen who are to some extent flourishing there. Seeking asylum is not a black and white case, as portrayed by the Daily Mail, that you are in mortal fear of your life and therefore happy to set up home anywhere else where you won't get shot. |
