Why the 118 people that landed at the British air force base in Cyprus a couple of weeks ago are unhappy ? They arrived at the base, uninvited, in 2 rickety boats. We were told they were fleeing their war-torn homeland in fear of their lives.Their landing at the air base we are told, was unintentional. So why have only 12 claimed asylum in Cyprus ? The other 106 are now demanding free access to Britain. And just to make sure their message is getting through, they are burning the tents they have been given for shelter, and trying to climd the razor wire topped fences to get out of the base. Now, call me cynical if you want, but I would have thought that if these people had been fleeing their war-torn homeland, they would have been delighted to get to a peaceful counrty like Cyprus, so why are they so unhappy ? Many people from Britain pay good money to go to Cyprus each year.So why are these people that were so desperate to get there, now so desperate to leave ? As I understand it, not only are these people now in a peaceful country, they are safe, have food and shelter, access to free medical treatment and even get a few quid pocket money. So now they have got that, they are still not happy. What EXACTLY do these people really want ? |
