Rima, I am not sure where you are coming from on this. If your issue is climate change, then that is why we were all encouraged to buy diesel cars in the first place, as their CO2 emissions are far lower than standard petrol engines. Added to which the fuel consumption is far lower. I think Hybrids are a con. I recently went on a trip to the south coast with my brother-in law. His (petrol) Hybrid (with higher CO2 emissions) actually returned 34 mpg on that trip, where as my diesel returns 49.5 mpg. The energy required to build a Hybrid Car is significant, and when those batteries eventually go to land-fill they will pollute the Earth for years to come. The whole controversy about VW, and diesels in general is about NOx emissions, which are blamed for health issues including respiratory conditions, and possibly cancer (like red meat?) Anyway, it is a different argument and nothing to do with Climate Change. Others on this thread have commented on the drawbacks with full electric and hydrogen cars. I would only add that the electricity generation and delivery to recharge your e-car battery on your street is highly inefficient and not necessarily Green. |
