"That's not really a valid comparison." Why is it not a valid comparison? Give me your reasons or accept that I have a valid point. Tax Law has to deal with all kinds of businesses and not just the ones that for some reason you do not like. You cannot just make this stuff as you go along. One tax jurisdiction cannot make changes without consulting others and considering the possible negative and positive impacts of any changes. So why not try this one for size whilst you are thinking about that. A London based marine insurance company provides its services to large shipping companies registered (naturally!) in tax havens. These companies are owned by Greeks, Russians. Lebanese, Japanese and Koreans and have ships on the high seas all over the world. Where should this insurance company pay its corporation tax? In the UK or Greece, Korea, Russia etc or where its client companies are based (i.e. tax havens) or where the ships that it insures are at any point in time i.e. from the Bosphorus to the Panama Canal, the Arctic to the South China Sea? |
