I haven't read the book Joe and would really rather not. When I first worked at the TV Centre ( costume and clothing ) with Top of the Pops along with everything else, the DJ was David Jacobs wearing suit and tie. It was a live show with countdown and then "Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to top of the pops" Fine but then Savile arrived instead. A different matter altogether and there was no way I was going anywhere near his dressing room. The audience was teenagers who were very excited to have tickets to see their idols and also be on TV. They did of course want autographs. Later on my children weren't allowed to watch Jim'll Fix It. I didn't want him in the house. Meanwhile it was all still going on and in hospitals too. Why weren't people speaking up or being listened to? Then the BBC trying to cover up ( not surprisingly ) and making a mess of it. A lot of people had come and gone there. There are questions about management etc which is what this debate is about and good that we are able to participate. I've done the survey and am glad to have been given the opportunity. |
