Saville was a long time ago. When I was there then at the new TV Centre there was no internet, no mobile phones and not even colour TV ( colour monitors were being tried out in the bigger studios ) but it was still black and white everywhere else. The only means of communication was by word of mouth and be careful what we said. We all knew about Saville but we didn't see anything did we, we just had to get on with our jobs and mutter about it in the canteen. No photos were taken, no emails sent, no accountability just voices from the distant past opening up a whole can of worms. There weren't any other channels either. It's different now. What about drama, culture, something for everyone, unbiased reportage, children being conditioned by ads for all the latest must haves. From an objective point of view without personal choices how does the BBC compare with other channels? What needs to change? |
