"there is powerful and growing evidence that cannabis use causes psychosis particularly amongst the young" Psychosis is a symptom, not an illness. There is evidence that cannabis may exacerbate pre-existing mental illnesses, like schizophrenia, but this isn't the same as *causing* it. The pre-existing mental condition may be mild and undiagnosed but eventually the person may end up showing symptoms like psychosis whether they take cannabis or not. An analogy would be alcohol and great cancer. Alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer but someone may end up getting breast cancer anyway even if they don't drink. "noticeable proportion of the current generation of teens having their lives permanently blighted" is a huge overstatement http://drugscience.org.uk |
