I'm not entirely sure what was happening in the first post. Was the Jack Russell pup approaching a woman or a woman with a dog or some dogs (we don't know who 'them' are)? And did the woman literally kick the dog and hit it ('flicking' seems to morph into 'whacking' at some point) or did she wave her hand and make a kicking motion towards the pup? I agree that CHG is a wonderful place for dogs and people to enjoy themselves, and we must all share the space, but I think dog owners must also appreciate that what to you is your big (or small) friendly, demonstrative companion can be quite an alarming presence to someone who is just out for a walk. I always smile politely when a big, panting dog bounds towards me, tongue flopping out and tail wagging, but I instinctively close my hands so that it can't nip my fingers and am relieved when it's passed into the distance behind me. I'm afraid I just don't share the anthropomorphism of the dogs' owners. |
