Vicky's 5 month old puppy was on the ground crawling slowly along on her tummy with her hind legs out behind her (a bit like a frogs legs). She is a very small Jack Russell and an absolute sweetheart. The position she was in was one of total subservience. She weighs about 4kgs, this dogs body language should have told this woman that this tiny puppy presented zero danger, could not this woman not have simply walked away instead of physically lashing out? If this woman has a genuine phobia why walk in a place that is well known as a dog walking area? Vicky is an experienced dog handler / owner and in addition to being a school teacher, also works for a Dog Rescue charity rehoming abandoned and abused dogs, so I trust her judgement and what she wrote starting off this thread. Chiswick has 1000's of dogs so I wonder how people with a dog phobia cope? The other week I had my 2 terriers on lead and walking past Waitrose when a woman coming towards me suddenly screamed "get those "filthy things away from me" I ignored her and carried on walking with further abuse following me! People have phobia's but if they are extreme as what appears to be the case with what happened to Vicky and my example, perhaps they should seek help. I have no time for irresponsible dog owners and dogs should always be on lead when in the street or places that clearly state dogs on lead, but most of CH it's permitted for dogs to be off lead with the exception of clearly signed areas. |
