Its funny how somewhere becomes an integral part of your life without you really noticing it happening. When I go through phases of working abroad, all I crave is to come home, walk into Sam's in the morning, read the paper, have my coffee made the way I like it without asking and tucking into a small scrambled egg on toast. Being greeted like a long lost friend (until recently particularly by Rangi), sharing jokes. Having Sam's nearly next door to me to go to for my birthday, for the Queen's jubilee, friends who come back to visit Chiswick asking to go there as its always wonderful. Perusing the menu to work out what seasonal or available ingredients Ian and then Mark have whipped into something delish. There are two sets of friends I haven't managed to take to Sam's in the 10 years he's been there - took it for granted for too long and will have to see if I can get them into London to take them there before the end of the month. Sam's will be much missed if the sale goes through. |
