Let’s get real. The French have never got over the thrashing we have given them throughout history. Waterloo, Trafalgar and so on still run deep in their DNA.

It’s no good  the great and the good telling us the French should help us to sort it out. They won’t, in fact they are more than happy to let us sweat.

Years ago I sat next to a guy at dinner who was part of the Expeditionary Force who fought alongside the French. Asking about how things were between the two armies he told me that they resented us helping them, would go out of their way to make life difficult and if there was and tough fighting to be done their attitude was , leave it to the British.

Nothing much has changed as far as I can see.

I feel the only way we can mitigate the problem, not solve it agreed , is to pour massive resources into nailing down security as best we can at Calais with British money and personnel.

Sure some people are still going to get through and it’s not a long term answer but it’s the best we can do for now.

Let’s get on with it!
