"On its landing approach, a plane's engines are on the aeronautical equivalent of tickover, so aren't producing much noise." The noise is certainly less than when climbing after take-off, but the engines aren't idling. It needs thrust to maintain 160 knots. And when the undercarriage and flaps are lowered, there will be a rise in thrust to cope with the increased drag. |
