Dave, the government says it is likely that one day there will be another terror attack in London - how do they know that? They don't, for certain – but they are dealing with probabilities. And given the recent near misses with drones around Heathrow, quite widely reported, plus the ever-increasing ability of terrorists to affect our way of life, and the fact that air accidents happen particularly on landing and taking off, plus the huge number of planes going in and out of Heathrow and set to increase if this mad idea takes flight, if I were doing a risk assessment I would put a crash over a densely populated area high on the list of possibilities/probabilities. Few things are really known for certain - the level the population will reach by 2050, how many people pollution will kill around Heathrow even more than it is doing already for example - but all planning is based on possibilities and probabilities, including Davies' runway plan, although many people disagree with the way he has calculated these. |
