Section 106 money from the developer of Chiswick Business Park was originally supposed to pay for a new underground station which would be served by the Piccadilly line. They were required to pay £14mn into a transport fund for this purpose. TfL were never going to agree to a new station and this money has been spent on a piecemeal basis often on projects that have little or nothing to do with improving the transport infrastructure around the park. For instance the set up costs of controlled parking zones were paid for out of this money.

Gunnersbury is already over capacity and the business park is not fully occupied, plus as people have pointed out there area lots of new developments for which this station will be the closest on the tube as it will be for Brentford's new stadium.
