Hi Paul - in the interests of clarity can you please 'unpackage' your comments a little. What in your opinion is "the political damage that approval will do to the Council"? These are old-school Labour politicians who hold 49 out of the Borough's 60 council seats. They are virtually "bomb proof" for the next three years. Surely we would all be very much surprised if the developers did not pay for a "a publicity effort to try and convince us that this building is good news for the area". But what exactly is linkage back from the developers to the Council and any desire that Members and Officers might have to limit political damage? This is a genuine question. I am eager to understand the assumptions about the planning process that lie behind your conclusions. |
