To his credit (in my eyes anyway as a catholic) Francis has definitely changed the tone of the papacy for the better. His emphasis on the poor and pretty well kicking certain elements of the church hierarchy through his announcements to alter their ways from what has gone on under the prior two popes is commendable. His comments on climate change feed into this approach. On the issues of clerical child abuse he has stated to make some inroads but like the reforms needed of the Vatican Bank this is not an easy project to make immediate progress on. As the attached article (with specific reference to resignations at a high level in Minneapolis and St. Paul, the scene of a prior claimed major cover up) shows, making bishops accountable for what happens in their diocese is a key part of the steps being taken. http://nsnbc.me/2015/06/16/pope-approves-exiting-archbishops-amid-alleged-pedophilia-cover-up/ |
