The message that should be taught in schools is that the Magna Carter paved the way for fair trial and limits of taxation as well as ruling that not even the monarch was to be considered above the law.

It was also the first step in giving women rights - that they could inherit property and did not have to remarry‎ if their husband died.

Those basic rights are still relevant in the 21st century.‎
