The message that should be taught in schools is that the Magna Carter paved the way for fair trial and limits of taxation – as well as ruling that not even the monarch was to be considered above the law.

It was also the first step in giving women rights - that they could inherit property and did not have to remarry‎ if their husband died.

Those basic rights are still relevant in the 21st century.‎
