If Greece defaults outright to the IMF and the Central Bank  it's likely to have fairly significant short term market implications. However, global financial markets are probably well shielded from the fallout of such an event, with Euro analysts having predicted probable default by Greece - you don't have to be Milton Friedman to have forecast this scenario. So yes, imo, there will be negative effects but not catastrophic in UK and mainland Europe
